Who runs the site

MTD Magpie is operated by Brian Rooney, sole trader, Office 1, Technology House, 9 Newton Place, Glasgow, G3 7PR.

MTD Magpie is not HM Revenue & Customs and is not endorsed by HMRC. The site provides general information and comparison tools, not tax, accounting or financial advice.

How we make money

Some providers may pay MTD Magpie a commission when somebody follows a commercial link and becomes a customer. Every commercial link is marked Ad where it appears.

Commission is not part of the ranking formula. A provider can rank first when it pays us nothing, and an affiliate partner can rank below a non-paying provider or be excluded entirely if it does not fit the answers given.

Why business accounts are included

Some business account providers now bundle Making Tax Digital tools at no monthly software charge. That can be a cheaper route than buying separate bookkeeping software, but the account itself can have transaction or usage charges. We therefore compare the route as a whole rather than simply repeating a “free software” headline.

What we check

For the products we review in depth, we check the provider's own current pages for standard pricing, MTD for Income Tax support, who the product is aimed at, important limits, whether a business account is required and whether an affiliate relationship exists. Each detailed product entry carries a checked date.

Corrections

Software and bank-account features change quickly. If a provider changes a price or feature, the site will correct the comparison rather than preserve an old ranking. Until a dedicated contact address on the domain is live, this launch version does not publish an unmonitored email address.
